SA ahead in black procurement game - Nafcoc
South Africa is in a unique position to be ahead of the game in terms of big corporate procuring and giving businesses to black suppliers of products and services. That’s the view from delegates gathering at the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce’s (Nafcoc) first annual global empowerment best practices conference week.
The conference is being attended by professionals from North America, Europe and Asia and it is aim is to provide corporate South Africa and the government with international best practice benchmarks of how to economically empower previously marginalised groups.
Delegates say South Africa’s solid legislative foundation will make sure that the country is - within the next five years - ahead of the game in terms of procurement policies that will uplift small businesses owned and managed by black people.
But delegates are also of the view that black suppliers should treat empowerment as business as usual. That’s by providing creative, quality and well researched businesses with clear targets if they are to get a slice from multi-nationals and other big businesses.
