New system to improve Haisan’s logistics ops
HAISAN Resources Bhd will implement a radio frequency identification and warehouse management system (WMS), which incorporates a distribution and transportation management module (DTM), as part of plans to upgrade its temperature-controlled logistics division.
The system will be set up in its subsidiary, Iglo Malaysia, by the third quarter, followed by the group’s Philippines and China operations by the second half of next year, managing director Ong Chin Yet said in a statement.
The system is expected to improve pallet tracking, ensuring inventory accuracy and better management control across Haisan’s 43 cold-rooms, which have a total storage capacity of up to 14,000 pallets (1 pallet is equivalent to 1 tonne).
DTM will be operational in its Malaysia operation early next year. The group will also implement a Chinese language WMS by the third quarter of this year. “These new systems will give greater flexibility and control towards the planning, management and distribution of goods,†the statement said.
It added that Haisan would introduce its cross-docking operations in Malaysia early next year. Through cross docking, goods are not subjected to any storage. Incoming goods are consolidated and shipped out direct to customers and retailers within the same day.
The group plans to implement this facility in its China and Philippines operations in 2007.
