Varig Logistics begins air cargo service from Houston
Brazilian company Varig Logistics has begun new weekly air cargo operations at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The venture marks the first dedicated freighter service between Houston and Brazil.
Also known as Varig Log, the company also services Los Angeles, Miami and New York.
Varig Log will use a DC-10 freighter to service Houston. The company expects the needs of the oil and gas industry to drive customer demand for its service in the Houston market, according to airport representatives. From Houston, Varig Log’s aircraft will follow a route to Manaus, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
“The state of Texas, being the strongest partner of Brazil in the U.S., desires direct service to Brazil,” says Jack Servera, Varig Log’s director of Asian and North American sales. “And the location Varig Log has chosen in Houston.”
